Useful Links 8th Grade: 13 Colonies 13 Colonies History of the 13 Colonies Happy Halloweek Students and Parents! If you are a student in my homeroom or a parent of a student in my homeroom, make sure you have signed up for our Halloween Party food and drinks; we will be holding a Halloween Party with light snacks after the parade on Wednesday, October 31st. The Upper School will also hold our first gathering on Friday, November 2nd. Both 7th and 8th Grades will be working on projects in Social Studies class this week. Our classes this week will look like this: Monday, October 29th - 7th Grade: Last day for Country Research, Checkpoint #1 must be signed by the end of class or students will lose project points. Tuesday, October 30th - 8th Grade: Students will be beginning the First Thirteen Colonies Project by researching one assigned colony. Wednesday, October 31st - 7th Grade: Begin deciding what products each partner will be responsible for and what students plan to create for their Trifold Board. Thursday, November 1st - 8th Grade: Students will continue working on the First Thirteen Colonies Project by breaking into colony groups i.e. New England Colonies, Mid-Atlantic Colonies, and Southern Colonies. Students will create displays about their colonies for a Gallery Walk for other groups. Friday, November 2nd - 7th Grade: Begin working on design for Trifold Board

Hello! We have a busy week planned for PCA with several school and after-school events. First, important details for my homeroom students and parents: we will be having a Halloween party in homeroom on Wednesday, October 31. Please stay tuned for sign-up information! Useful links for this week 7th: International Festival Project Guidelines 8th: Roanoke/Jamestown/Plymouth Review Game On Monday of this week 8th Graders will be traveling to Polytech High School to explore the campus and learn more about the high school. The 7th and 8th Grade team will be hosting an Open House at PCA for any interested parents on October 23rd from 3:30 to 5:30. Meetings will last around 15 minutes and are first come, first served. Lastly, PCA will have a NUT day on Friday of the week. Students in 7th Grade completed a test on Monday of last week and all classes are showing lots of improvement and understanding of the Five Themes of Geography concepts. As for classwork this week, both 7th and 8th Grade will be beginning culminating projects for their current units. 7th Grade is beginning their Country Research Project that will be presented at the International Festival in our school in November. 8th Grade will begin researching the 13 colonies and will create a brochure encouraging settlers to come to their assigned colonies. Monday, October 22nd - 8th Grade: Students will be finishing the Pilgrims & Wampanoag Venn Diagram; at 11AM students will be attending the Polytech Field Trip until 3:15PM. Tuesday, October 23rd - 7th Grade: Country Research Project; students will be beginning their research and select their partners/countries. Wednesday, October 24th - 8th Grade: Vocabulary in notebook page 19, The First Thirteen Colonies p. 20-21; Jamestown/Roanoke/Plymouth Exit Ticket Thursday, October 25th - 7th Grade: Continuing Research on the 8 elements of culture Friday, October 26th - 8th Grade: Continue the First Thirteen Colonies; begin The Colonies Project with research displayed on chart paper. If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by email. The Scholastic Book Fair is also coming to PCA this week with lots of great books on geography, history, and other interesting social studies topics. I greatly encourage all students to check the book fair out to see if they can find a book that fits their interests. As we are finishing up our unit on the Five Themes of Geography this week, students will be taking a quiz on the first few themes of Location, Place, and Interaction that we have covered since our first week of school. Students have the opportunity to practice for this quiz using the Quizizz Review Game linked above. I always send this out on the Remind App as well. At the end of the week students will be beginning their Country Research Project, which will culminate with our Culture Fair in mid-November. Students will be picking their country and working each class day to research the five themes of geography for their country until this date. Last week we had a wonderful week in 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies, creating our Place State Postcards in 7th and unearthing the artifacts of America's first colonists in 8th Grade. This week please remember PCA will be closed for Professional Development on Monday, October 8th. I am beginning to use Class Dojo in 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies to keep track of student behavior and encourage students to work towards improving their behavior in class. On Tuesday October 9th students in 7th Grade will turn in their State Postcard as the second grade of the trimester. We will be doing a Gallery Walk to further assess our understanding of physical and human characteristics. I will be sending home updated grades in Thursday folders to allow any students to make up missed work before Progress Reports are due.
